Today I received a 1 pound block of 100% Organic Raw Unrefined African Shea Butter from Beauty by Shea to review.
I opened it up and realized it was a nice big block. I did not know that it was going to be in a block, for some reason, I thought it was going to be already in a lotion form. After that initial shock, I was really happy to see it come in the block form, so I could make my own lotions and soaps. I have never done that before, but I plan on making some in time to try it before the holidays. Homemade shea butter lotion for stocking stuffers. I think it sounds good.
Ok, so if you’re family or friends, pretend you didn’t read that!!!!
I really loved using this straight from the block, (it was more like a squished block.) Due to the heat, the block got a little soft on it’s way to me, so it wasn’t actually a block. I would suggest that you two day this product or even overnight if you want it in the block as shown in the first picture.
I put a dime-quarter sized piece of the block in my palm. The directions said it will just melt in your palm. It really did! The middle of my palm still has a little piece that did not “melt” completely. Around that piece is how the shea butter softens out and then you can apply.
I applied it to my dry feet. I always have dry feet. I wear flip flops 90% of the time and even in the winter. (Hey, I live in Florida!) Wearing flippy flops do dry out my feet. I was amazed as soon as I rubbed this lotion into my feet, they looked nourished, healthier, and moisturized! I didn’t see one dry area on my feet. I also put some shea butter on both of my elbows. They were a much better after one application, but I did have to keep applying this to my elbows every day to keep them soft. I did not have to apply the shea butter to my feet again for a few days.
It did take A LOT of time to rub that sized piece of the shea butter into both my feet and elbows. So a LITTLE goes a long way! Trust me on that one! I would suggest a dime size, divide it in half, each half for one foot. I cannot stress enough how a little goes a long way.
I did not try it in my hair yet, if I do, I will come back and edit and update!
You do not need to make a lotion or soap out of this to reap the benefits. The raw organic twice filtered shea butter is perfect as it is, in my opinion. You won’t be disappointed in the moisture it brings your skin. You will feel happy knowing that this is a pure and natural one ingredient moisturizer for your whole body.
